Baton is made by Chidiebere Chukwudi. This page explains, in plain words, what this website, the Baton plugins and Baton’s AI service collect. The short version: as little as possible, and never anything your users type.
This website
- No cookies, no ad trackers and no newsletter pop-ups.
- Visit counts come from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or follow you around the web. It only shows totals, like how many people visited a page.
- The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to keep it secure and running.
Buying Baton Pro
Payments are handled by Freemius, which sells Baton Pro on my behalf and takes care of the payment, tax and receipts. I never see your card details. I do receive your name, email address, what you bought and which sites your license is active on, so I can support you and send license and update emails. See the Freemius privacy policy for how they handle your data.
The Baton plugin
- Recording only happens while a site administrator has pressed Record, and only clicks are saved. Anything typed into a form is never recorded.
- Walkthroughs, steps and who has finished them are stored in your own WordPress database. They aren’t sent to me.
- Baton doesn’t track your site’s visitors, and it never adds links or ads to the public side of your site.
AI step writing
AI is optional. It only runs when an administrator clicks “Save and let AI write the steps” or “Write steps with AI”. Each time, Baton sends my AI service (a Cloudflare Worker using Cloudflare Workers AI), for every step:
- the name of the page the step was on, like “Settings › General”
- the kind of control that was clicked, like “button” or “checkbox”
- the text on that control, like “Add Page”
It also sends a one-way scrambled code (a SHA-256 hash) made from your site address, so the service can count each site’s daily allowance without knowing which site it is. Your server’s IP address is used to stop too many requests at once. Nothing typed into forms, no page addresses and no user details are sent, and my service doesn’t store the steps it receives or writes.
Baton Pro licenses and updates
Baton Pro checks its license and looks for updates. To do that it sends your license key, your site address and the plugin version. Nothing about your users or visitors is included.
